The glycemic index diet takes into account the amount and form of free glucose with food to lose weight and be healthier.
The rise in blood sugar is what is called the glycemic index. Not only sweet raises the blood sugar, the carbohydrates we eat are converted to glucose, fructose, fruit, starches, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc. From the way food is prepared or cooked also determines its glycemic index.
If, for example, eat a plate of pasta the blood sugar level will rise, to be followed by a huge release of insulin to counteract this hyperglycemia. This sugar is stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen to be used when necessary. The first exercise uses the muscle glycogen, so having a toned body helps you burn more energy.
